Mr. Spungen, 84, died in his home on July 28th Good grief! I had imagined Nancy Spungen was a contemptible little toe rag from the wrong side of the tracks. Turns out, she came from a loving, hard-working middle class family from Philadelphia who tried for years to get help for their obviously disturbed daughter. Our brother Danny Spungen and his family created the Spungen Family Foundation in 2006.

Florence was raised in a deeply rooted religious Jewish family from Staten Island, New York, where her passion for Jewish causes was nurtured and always close to the surface. Spungen appeared to have suffered no brain damage and was released from the hospital eight days after birth.
